Police women and BDF men were on Sunday crowned the 2016/17 BoFiNet Softball League Champions at the National Diamond pocketing P100 000 each.
Defending champions, Police hammered Vikings 9-2 in the finals to win the most coveted prize, while BDF repeated the score line and crashed Police men 9-2 in the final.
Police stamped authority from the word go in the first inning, scoring three runs by Otsile Moshabe, Kagiso Lowang and Onalenna Ntibi.
The game went on a dry spell until the fourth inning, when Vikings delivered a sole point by Irene Mutunge through a pass ball.
Vikings continued to chase after Police in the fifth inning as Kebatenne Moganiwa registered a run all thanks to a hit by Kefilwe Molosiwa.
Police came in to the fifth inning resolute than ever as Masego Philimon scored through a hit by Oreabetse Mojeremane.
Moshabe followed suit and delivered a run from Ntibi’s fly ball which Vikings fielders failed to glove.
A pass ball then saw Lowang register yet another point which was followed by Ntibi’s run, courtesy of Oratile Hamathi’s smack to outfield.
Police continued to demolish Vikings with a smack from Charity Isaac that sailed home Tuna Passman and Hamathi home to close it down with a 9-2.
In the last encounter of the season, BDF men avenged last season’s downfall stylishly, after the trophy slipped through their fingers suffering a narrow defeat from Wells who were last year champions hence the army boys settling for second best.
BDF giants were too hot to handle as they opened the first inning with two runs by Jurry Manaka and Mabedi Senyerero.
Police retaliated in the second inning through a homerun from Tawina Phibion as the National Diamond trembled in rapture.
The third inning saw BDF’s Manaka register another run from a hit by Mothusi Shalobane which was followed by a powerful smack by Senyerero which sailed home Shalobane.
A homerun by Senyerero in the fifth inning completely crashed Police as it sailed home kabo Matlho and Shalobane home.
As if that was not enough, Witness Gaarogwe knocked another homerun for BDF which drove home an extra run by Gofaone Monkemedi to set National Diamond on fire.
Owen Chilume scored Police’s consolation run in the fifth inning to wrap up the 2016/17 season.
First runner ups, Vikings ladies and Police men pocketed P65 000 each, second runners up Panthers ladies and Wells men scooped P40 000 each.
