The campaign leader of 10 American Peace Corps volunteers, Ms Kelly Genskow says they opted to cycle around Bobirwa villages to teach people about how to prevent themselves from being infected by Malaria disease.
Ms Genskow said this in an interview at Mathathane on Wednesday.
“Our campaign is made of 10 peace corps volunteers who are attached to different government departments in this country,” she said.
Ms Genskow said she opted to do the campaign in Bobirwa because it was one of the areas in Botswana that was hard hit by malaria. “In our campaign we use bicycles to travel around Bobirwa villages,” she added.
She said their campaign includes teaching residents and students about how to use mosquito nets, malaria symptoms, types of mosquitoes that cause malaria and how malaria is spread.
“So far our campaign has received positive respond from residents who are eager and willing to learn about malaria,” she said.
She said upon completion of their campaign, residents would be armed with education on new methods of preventing themselves from being affected by malaria.
Ms Genskow said the main aim of their campaign was to reduce the number of people who were affected by malaria in Bobirwa.
She advised residents to utilise government programmes which were used to prevent people from getting malaria. end
