23 Apr 2017

President Lt Gen. Dr Seretse Khama Ian Khama on April 21, together with cabinet ministers and officials, traded their formal wear for casual gear on community service day at Old Naledi ward in Gaborone.
President Khama led cabinet in litter picking, playing football, netball, volleyball, mhele and chess games and the painting of Gabaresepe Day Care Centre.

Other activities of the day included aerobics as well as the health screening of different ailments such as weight check, blood pressure, sugar levels, TB and HIV.
President  Khama also donated two computers to Old Naledi Kgosi Arnold Somolokae for office use.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale said they found it fit to continue the good work they started years back.
He said it was important for cabinet to meet and mingle with ordinary people and to relax out of office activities together.

Minister Molale further said they found it fit to play a role in community development by being involved in activities to make a difference.
He noted that Old Naledi was one of the oldest locations in the city, saying it has been neglected and needed a facelift to awaken it.

Mr  Molale explained that when the community service day was introduced by President Khama several years ago, they only helped in various projects, but now they have done many projects across the country, citing places such as Bokaa, Kopong, Tlokweng, SOS  to mention a few.

He said participation in community service was meant to show Batswana what working together and serving each other meant, and for them to produce positive results.
He stated that community service day was an example for the nation to work together to build a better Botswana. He said President Khama  and his cabinet hoped not only to influence mindsets towards working together, but to also leave a record of all their achievements.

He urged other public officers countrywide to emulate President Khama in their areas and also urged them to take care of the  projects.
The area MP, Mr Kagiso Molatlhegi said the visit by cabinet showed that they have not been forgotten. end
