Sedie junior secondary school in Maun has partnered with Oxley College from Australia through the Adopt-a-School initiative.
The chairperson of Sedie JSS Adopt-a-School iniative, Mr Tebogo Mogaetsho said the mutual relationship would benefit both schools in environmental protection, education and cultural exchange.
Speaking at a tree planting ceremony by the Oxley College students and the host school, Mr Mogaetsho said the ceremony was marking the end of the first visit from the Australian school.
He noted that the initiative was one of the Ministry of Education’s way of promoting partnerships with schools for better education.
Mr Mogaetsho said Sedie JSS was an institution that embraced environmental consciousness therefore tree planting.
“We spent a week with the college students, had a cultural activity for them to interact with our students,” he said.
The Oxley College team, Sedie students and Mathiba Primary School pupils planted trees at Sedie kgotla, Bonepwa offices, Sedie Clinic and Sedie JSS.
Sedie school, he said, had planted about 1 000 trees around the North West region so far.
He said the exchange programme would not only benefit Sedie JSS, but Mathiba Primary School as well as the community.
Tree planting, he noted, benefitted the environment as shade, windbreakers and that the Maun environment as a tourism hub ought to be well maintained.
Sedie school head, Ms Senatla Mokobela said it was an honour for Sedie JSS to have been selected by Oxley College among schools in Maun.
Ms Mokobela said they hoped for greater achievements going forward with the partnership as Oxley College would visit again in October. end
