Ghanzi regional football association dominated the western block inter regional football youth tournament they hosted over the Easter holidays.

They hosted youth teams, both girls and boys under 13, 15 and 17 categories from Tsabong, Hukuntsi and Kang.

Ghanzi emerged champions in both girls and boys under 13 and 15 categories.

They also grabbed first position in boys under 17 category while Tsabong region came first in girls under 17 category.

As the tournament was used to select players for the teams to represent the western block at the enter blocks competitions, Ghanzi region again featured most in all youth squads except in the girls' under 13 team and 17 teams, dominated by Tsabong region.

The  girls under 13 team consists of nine players from Tsabong, five from Ghanzi and four players from Hukuntsi region.

In girls under 17 team, there are 11 players from Tsabong, eight from Ghanzi and four from Hukuntsi.

During the opening ceremony, Botswana Football Association technical officer, Barobi Ngwako said they decided to start afresh by establishing youth development to give the players the right skills at the right age.

Also she said they give the girl child the equal opportunity as boys.

She said the objective of the tournament was to introduce first love of football to the youth so that they can make their choices when they grow up.

Ngwako said robust youth development would help the country to compete with the world. She stated that football is a powerful tool to address challenges that faces the youth, as such encouraged coaches not to be result oriented but be development oriented.

Ghanzi district youth coordinator, Gobonaone Ramoupo hailed the association for starting afresh saying giving youth opportunities is part of youth empowerment.

He encouraged the participants to take heed of coaches' instructions for them to reap positive rewards. BOPA
