Police hand over house no.44
17 Apr 2017
Botswana Police Service, northern division, has handed over a house to a needy family of Ms Dinani James of Sebina.
Speaking at the handing over ceremony recently, Commissioner Keabetswe Makgophe said the house of Ms James was the 44th donated by Botswana Police Service to needy community members across the country.
Of the 44 houses, Commissioner Makgophe said five of the nine that were handed over last year were by the northern division under the leadership of Senior Assistant Commissioner Dinah Marathe.
The Commissioner said the efforts by police officers to help members of the community showed dedication on their part. He added that the efforts were aimed at intensifying community policing arrangements which they have adopted as part of their fundamental principles of fighting crime.
He noted that in their research they have realised that the lives of some individuals could lead to them to commit crime, and that during their patrols they look into such situations.
He said they have decided to partner with the community to change the living conditions of some families and people who could be vulnerable to criminal activities.
The permanent secretary in the Ministry of Defence, Justice and Security, Ms Segakweng Tsiane said the work that had been done by the police in building the houses for needy families had helped in restoring those families’ dignity.
She added that a place to stay was one need which every family deserved, as it shielded them from all weather conditions.
She also noted that with a proper house, families were also safe from criminal activities.
Ms Tsiane said the work of the police in housing families deserved to be praised, as they had shown compassion to fellow Batswana.
She also noted that they contributed from their own earnings with the support of the community they have partnered with.
For his part, the Member of Parliament for Shashe West, Mr Fidelis Molao said the police had the extra mile in executing their services to the community.
He further said they have shown that they were not only into policing the community, but also considerate of the welfare of those in need.BOPA
