BoFiNet donates computers to curb technological gap

Botswana Fibre Networks has donated 20 computers to Motsumi Junior Secondary School in Letlhakane.

The computers were handed by public relations  and marketing manager, Ms Shadi Linchwe in Letlhakane on April 10.

She stated that the role of technology in educational institutions like Motsumi JSS was critical and would support all the children to curb the technological gap.

Ms Linchwe said it was important for all the children to have the same access to education.

Children in rural areas, she said, were supposed to be exposed to the same platform as those in urban areas.

Teachers and students at Motsumi JSS, she said, have not been able to access internet due to their geographical location.  

The government she said have been trying it’s best to provide all schools with internet, through DIT but internet provided has not been sufficient to the users.

BoFiNet she said had made it possible for more learners to be able to occupy more computers during lessons and appreciate what using a machine to learn felt like.

In addition BoFiNet had also deployed high speed WiFi to the school.

The beneficiaries of the school she said would be browsing using five Mbps for a period of one year.

Ms Linchwe  indicated that BoFiNet has provided the school with WiFi to able to use it on any gadget at anytime.

Through internet, academic and behavioural results of all the children could change positively if both teachers, stakeholders and parents managed to monitor what the students use the internet  for.

Ms Linchwe said it was an inherent right for every child to attend a decent school with the right resources and receive quality education.

“It is often said that knowledge is power, but I don’t fully agree with that notion, knowledge is power only when utilised,” she added.

She noted that young boys and girls needed to be fully equipped with knowledge by making use of internet and equipment at their disposal.

Teachers, she said, should use internet and computers to better the students’marks.

Ms Linchwe stated that the results of the current Form three students should depict  the impact of having access to internet during the 2017 academic results.

The school head, Ms Janet Motsuminyane said their aim was to achieve excellence and to attain it, such resources as computers and internet were required.

BoFiNet she said had answered their call and has heeded government’s call of adopt a school.

The PTA chairperson, Mr Jack Retlhatloleng said the computer donation would the boost moral of students.

The deputy school head, Ms Rachel Pule said the school laboratory has 25 computers with an average of 43 learners.

The donation she said would remedy the situation, saying learners would use the gadgets to acquire information and use it in a productive manner. ENDS
