11 Apr 2017
As a move to upgrade and enhance learners performance of remote areas, Ministry of Youth Empowerment, Sports and Culture Development has donated 70 books to the learners.
The principal youth officer, Ms Chedza Malapela said the donation was a strategic way of paving a bright future for the learners to achieve excellence in academics.
This, she said on Friday during community service day held at Kedia RADS hostels.
Ms Malapela noted that students in remote areas had a challenge of accessing research materials in preparation for examinations due to lack of resources and facilities such asclibraries and Internet.
She said it was essential for employees to support and assist those living in their surroundings, which is the initiative the ministry took. The ministry staff in Boteti cleaned dormitories, weeded and did laundry for RADS students at the hostels.
Principal library officer, Ms Ditshwanelo Gabathuse said the idea was to uplift performance level of RADS pupils and help improve their living conditions.
Ms Gabathuse said the standard of performance of learners could be enhanced through reading, learning English and composition as much as essay writing.
Mr Obonye Lerako, Village Development Committee chairperson, said education was a priority in life, and has the potential to create a future for students.
The RADS students were assisted by the department of Social Welfare from primary to tertiary with clothing, food hampers and transport. ENDS
