Ngwato Land Board orientates members
10 Apr 2017
Specially elected councillor, Mr James Kgalajwe has called on the newly appointed Ngwato Land Board members to work together with other stakeholders to ensure prudent land management.
Speaking at the orientation of the members at Adansonia recently, Mr Kgalajwe called for the engagement of the community and fairness in the allocation of land.
He urged the members to familiarise themselves with all land statutory instruments in order to ensure efficiency and fairness.
Mr Kgalajwe called on members to guard against corruption, adding that in the past some land boards were marred by allegations of corruption.
He said with no cases of corruption, Batswana could have confidence that land boards could manage their land.
He also called on the members to manage squatters at the early stages to avoid attracting negative publicity.
Mr Kgalajwe, who was speaking on behalf of the city mayor, commended the land board for orientating its new members, saying it shows its commitment to satisfying its clientele.
In his welcome remarks, the board chairperson, Mr David Modisagape called for team spirit among members.
Mr Modisagape called on members not to prioritise their interests when allocating land, but rather to prioritise government key areas such as affirmative action and poverty eradication.
He also urged members to join Botswana Association of Tribal Land Authorities (BATLA) to ensure that their welfare was taken care of.
Ngwato Land Board secretary, Ms Neo Mothobi said some of the achievements by her board were that sub land boards have been realigned with the Central District and that land acquisition for socio economic development has been done.
Ms Mothobi implored members to ensure that land was not only allocated but was also developed. ENDS
