Long distance runner Godiraone Nthompe has retained the Lady Khama Charitable Trust Trail run dubbed Run 21.
The first event on the Trust’s annual calendar the race attracted more than 1500 marathon enthusiasts and was divided into the 21.1kilometres, 10km and 5km. as expected the 21.1km category attracted the likes of the national cross country champion Nthompe who was a marvel to watch in the route which took runners from the National Stadium into the scenic Gaborone Game reserve and around the areas of the Fairgrounds.
It took Nthompe an impressive 1 hour nine minutes and 37 seconds to round up the entire loop while Rapula Diphoko came agonisingly close after him.In the ladies 21.1km 26-year-old Goshwe-born Mema Tiango was crowned the winner ahead of her rival Joyce Tau.
The 25-year-old Sesebo Matlapeng was crowned the overall winner of the 10km category.
The Lefika Athletics club runner is fresh from a victory at the Mahalapye meet earlier this year where he went past the likes of Nthompe.
In an interview after the race Matlapeng said he chose the short distance category in an effort to sharpen his speed ahead of the closely contested Diacore marathon.
In the ladies 10km category, 24-year-old SSKB athletics club runner, Marea Maano kept her impressive run following a similar victory in Mahalapye.
She also took part in the intriguing Lesotho cross country.

He said it was the first time they used the stadium and they were overwhelmed by the support from participants who came in droves.
Ter Haar said the event was kick starting their events lined up for the year. The other events are the Lady Khama gala dinner, Lady Khama golf cup, President’s cup, Ghanzi horse endurance relay, urban obstacles course, super sprint triathlon and the family fun day. ENDS
