10 Apr 2017

Mater Spei College hosted a victory party for the best achievers on Friday.

Giving an overview of the school, deputy headmaster, Mr Percy Mongwewarona explained that the school managed to scoop positon two in the country with a 40 per cent pass rate.

Addressing stakeholders at the celebration, the deputy mayor of Francistown, Mr Godisang Radisego said Mater Spei remained a beacon of hope in the northern part of the country and it was not surprising for it to be joined by one of the best student of 2016, Ms Susan Charlie.

He explained that the ceremony should be used to reflect and craft a future which would make Botswana a shining example of a developing country.

Mr Radisego further encouraged Mater Spei College and the North East region at large to strive to be the best amongst the best.

He said through hard work and the demanding environment they needed to hold each other’s hands and aim to make Mater Spei College second to none.

He further noted that it was of utmost importance for the government to provide a conducive environment for students and teachers to be able to achieve their goals.

He said what was required from the government should be to provide resources and human personnel to assist the students.

“It remains government’s prerogative to take into consideration the educators needs in order for them to deliver, as good working conditions are the bedrock for any good results,” he said.

He further urged teachers and their respective unions to respect and work with each other.

The relationship between unions and the government should be a cordial one which has the students at heart.

Mr Radisego noted that it was also vital for parents to be part of the learning process of their children because the government and teachers alone could never be the sole custodians of students.

He pointed out that parents and the entire community were needed to harness and nurture children, adding that parents should be involved in their children’s education.

“It is painful to learn that a good number of parents don’t even show up for PTA meetings as it is a forum aimed at discussing and mapping the way forward between the school and parents,” he added.

He implored all stakeholders to promote the spirit of togetherness and unity in the quest for academic excellence.

For his part, the headmaster of the school, Mr Jabulani Munyere said it was through preaching excellence that enabled them to achieve something.

He thanked the staff of the school for their dedication in their work, stating that it was through determination and drive that they were able to yield good results.

Mr Munyere said it was because they believed in their students that they were able to make it.

He explained that it was because they also encouraged their students and believed in sharing their concerns with teachers and trusted them, that they were able to do well. ENDS
