Multitudes bid Motsokono farewell

The demise of Ms Malebogo Motsokono is said not to be a loss only to the family, but to the entire nation as she immensely contributed to various social calls.
Minister of Health and Wellness, Ms Dorcas Makgato said this when addressing multitudes of mourners who attended Motsokono’s funeral service held at UCCSA Serowe on April 8.
Ms Motsokono, aged 57, died on March 29 following a heart operation complications at Bokamoso Private Hospital.
Ms Motsokono, a nurse by profession, was Sekgoma Memorial Hospital Mental Health coordinator and Substance Abuse Campaign focal person and premier league side, Miscellaneous Sporting Club’s spokesperson.
The minister said the country had lost a soldier who devoted her entire life to the service of health and described her as a true ambassador in the ministry.
Ms Makgato said Ms Motsokono was fearless, free spirited, jolly and joyful and a passionate individual who was capable of luring people to what she believed in.
She said she was a forceful, yet determined individual; hence her ability to get things done.
Minister Makgato said Ms Motsokono had certainly left a mark, given what she had accomplished in life.
She said their last conversation was when Ms Motsokono called her about her health condition, whose symptoms the minister said she warned her against disregarding.
“None of us thought of her death, it came as a shock. It is sad that we are busy helping others and neglecting our health, she was a classic example. We must learn out of this, be selfish and give ourselves attention,” the minister advised.
Another speaker, former MP for Serowe South, Ms Tebelelo Seretse said Ms Motsokono was known for her dedication in what she did and was a perfectionist.
Ms Seretse said she had time for everybody and everything.
“She knew she was sick, but did not pause to attend to herself. Malebogo’s children you have an angel in heaven. Le sale le tshwaragane as family was important to her.”
The former ambassador in the US described Ms Motsokono as a hero gone too soon.
Representative from Miscellaneous fondly known as Tse Nala, Dr Sophisto Nthobatsang described Ms Motsokono as a star, who played a vital role in reviving the team.
He said such was important as the team formed part of the history of the village, as it was formed by the country’s first President, Sir Seretse Khama in 1958.
“She was patriotic, and you would enjoy her when the team was winning. I appeal to you all to consider naming something after her, it would be fitting to name the Serowe Sports Complex after her,” he said.
Her brother, Mr Michael Motsokono said her sister and the only daughter was kind, loving and a peacemaker and devoted UCCSA member committed to church activities.
He said they intended to fill the void left by his sister as she made family events happen.
Other speakers also described her as a good negotiator, a mentor who deserved to be celebrated.
Her spirit of volunteerism was notable as various entities came to pay their last respects.
She is survived by her mother and five brothers. ENDS
