Minister acknowledges assurance
06 Apr 2017
The Minister of Health and Wellness, Ms Dorcas Makgato has acknowledged that she had given assurance that the renovation of Maun General Hospital shall commence in May 2016.
Ms Makgato explained that from January to February 2016 there was an expression of interest that was put out by the then Ministry of Infrastructure, Science and Technology for companies to bid for the refurbishment of five hospitals, Maun General Hospital included.
She said unfortunately there was a delay because of the poor performance of the lead consultant, and that a contractor has since been appointed and preparations for site handing over were ongoing. The minister highlighted that rehabilitation would immediately follow.
She said her ministry intends to offer general outpatient, maternity, sexual reproductive health, dental services, isolation facilities, minor theatre services, Ngami District Health Management Team offices and radiology.
The MP for Maun East, Mr Kostantinos Markus had asked the minister if she was aware that she once gave an assurance in Parliament that Maun General Hospital would be renovated, but that up to now this had not happened. He further asked what had delayed the project and when it would start and what services would be housed at the hospital. ENDS
