Serowe internal roads pilot project - Masisi
05 Apr 2017
Vice President Mr Mokgweetsi Masisi has informed Central District councillors that government has increased the length of Serowe internal roads from the initial 25.8km at P50 million to 39.22km at a cost of P103 million.
Speaking during a CDC full council meeting, Tuesday, Mr Masisi said the increment in length was a response to the needs of quality roads.
Mr Masisi, who placed special emphasis on the delivery of quality roads, said Serowe internal roads were a pilot project, the success of which might inform government on the next move.
He revealed that in the event of success, the project would be rolled out to other villages in a similar manner, while engaging local contractors.
He said such contractors were expected to hone their skills in the process and could be engaged in similar projects elsewhere.
Consequently, the Vice President requested that councillors devise bylaws for internal roads and that such be strictly enforced and adhered to by all for the roads to last longer.
Mr Masisi promised that despite the increase in length of roads to be constructed, the number of earlier earmarked roads and quality would not be compromised.
While conceding to possible challenges and complaints, the Vice President urged councillors to ensure that the project was delivered on time and within budget.
He visited grey water project at Radihemelo in Serowe that was expected to be handed over mid April.
After learning that the available water could only cater for phase one of the project that had 18 hectares, Mr Masisi assured that water issues would be resolved.
He warned that non-performing beneficiaries be removed to pave way for those in need to farm. ENDS
