Commission provides policy advice - Batshu

The mandate of the National Gender Commission is to provide strategic advice on policy and programmatic issues on the national gender response.
Answering a question in Parliament on Tuesday, the Minister of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs, Mr Edwin Batshu said the Commission, which is a creation of the National Policy on Gender and Development was launched on September 8, 2016.
Mr Batshu highlighted that immediately after the launch, the commission took part in amongst others, International Men’s Day activities and 16 Days of Activism including hosting the closing ceremony of 16 Days of Activism.
He stated that the commission held its first scheduled meeting on February 14, 2017 and will hold its second meeting on April 6, 2017 whereby a planning workshop will take place to outline key areas of natural priority.
The Specially Elected MP, Ms Bogolo Kenewendo had asked the minister to state the current status of the Gender Commission and how much progress has been made towards achieving the mandate in relation to the National Gender Policy. ENDS
