Finance ministry has 92 vacancies - Matambo

Ministry of Finance and Economic Development (MFED) has 92 vacant posts as at March 21, 2017, Parliament has been informed. Responding to a question from the Specially Elected Member of Parliament, Mr Mephato Reatile on Tuesday, the Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Mr Kenneth Matambo said out of the 48 vacant posts in the Office of Accountant General, 30 were in headquarters, two in Southern Branch, three in South Central Branch, six in Northern Branch and seven North West Branch.
The vacancies are shown as such 10 are in the Corporate Services Department, 48 Office of Accountant General, 21 Development and Budget, 4 Economic and Financial Policy, 4 Financial Intelligence Agency and 5 in the Department of Internal Audit.
Mr Matambo said they had engaged 86 temporary employees, adding that the challenges that cause delay in filling these vacant posts included failure to attract candidates with the right qualifications and experience despite re-advertising the posts. Other challenges are lack of graduates with requisite qualifications from the graduate database and officers declining offers for posts located in the districts.
MP Reatile had asked the minister to state the number of vacant posts in the ministry, the total number of temporary employees engaged to acquire experience and challenges that cause delay in filling the vacant posts. ENDS
