Late submissions delay payments

04 Apr 2017

The major cause of late payment of living allowance to tertiary education students has been attributed to the late submission of registration lists by institutions.

Assistant Minister of Tertiary Education, Research, Science and Technology, Mr Fidelis Molao said the ministry was naturally disturbed by the situation and had developed a deliberate strategy to holistically address the problem.

“A decision has been taken to pay monthly living allowance in advance on the 27th of every month. As we speak, the April allowances have been paid on the 27th of March,” he said.

Mr Molao also noted that the ministry was in the process of finalising service level agreements with tertiary education institutions to facilitate timely submissions of registration lists, particularly at the beginning of the semester and after release of supplementary examinations results.

The MP for Nata-Gweta, Mr Polson Majaga had asked the minister to state the cause of late payment of tertiary education students’ living allowance by the Department of Tertiary Education Financing.

He had also wanted to know whether the government was satisfied with the current arrangement, if not, when the situation would be addressed. ENDS
