Poaching cases stand at 513
04 Apr 2017
A total of 513 animals of different species were poached from 2014 to date, and the number excludes fish and birds, says Minister of Environment, Natural Resources Conservation and Tourism, Mr Tshekedi Khama.
The minister said of the 513 animals poached, 114 were poached in 2014, 217 were poached in 2015, 113 in 2016 and 17 so far this year.
Minister Khama said not all the poachers originated from outside Botswana borders.
However, he added that poachers from outside find their way into the country at various points along the country’s long border where there were chances of evading security or border patrols. Francistown East MP, Mr Buti Billy had asked the minister to state the statistics of poaching from 2014 to 2017, and why poachers penetrated the country’s border lines easily. ENDS
