Suitable personnel hinder filling of posts
02 Apr 2017
There is delay in filling vacant posts in the Ministry of Transport and Communications due to the difficulty in attracting suitable candidates for professional and executive positions, the Minister of Infrastructure and Housing Development, Mr Nonofo Molefhi has said.
Mr Molefhi was responding to a question in Parliament from Specially Elected MP, Mr Mephato Reatile, on behalf of transport and communications minister, Mr Kitso Mokaila. “As at March 28, 2017, there were 154 temporary employees engaged by the ministry.
Temporary employees are engaged as and when there is need to do so, but not necessarily to acquire experience,” he said. Another challenge that causes delay in filling vacant posts, he said, was the lengthy recruitment process due to the centralisation of the appointment of all positions at the ministry headquarters, as per the recruitment policy.
Mr Reatile had asked the Minister of Transport and Communications to state the total number of vacant posts in the ministry, and to provide a breakdown by departments and districts.
He also wanted the minister to state the total number of temporary employees engaged to acquire experience and challenges that caused delay in filling the vacant posts. ENDS
