Ministry of Nationality, Immigration and Gender Affairs has 61 vacant posts and 113 temporary employees, Parliament was told. Minister Edwin Batshu said the 61 vacant posts in his ministry comprised 10 vacant posts in the Corporate Services, 27 in Immigration and Citizenship, six in Gender Affairs Department and 18 in Civil and National Registration.Responding to a question from Specially Elected MP, Mr Mephato Reatile, Minister Batshu stated that the 113 temporary employees are made up of 55 employees in the Gender Affairs programmes, 33 cleaners, 22 night watchmen, two gardeners and one messenger. In addition, Mr Batshu said the ministry did not experience delays in filling vacant positions. When a vacant position occurs, he said, the ministry proceeds in filling it immediately through internal or external recruitment. “Currently, the status in filling of the 61 vacant positions stands as follows: 25 positions have been shortlisted for interviews, 14 positions have been interviewed and offers are being processed, 19 positions have been offered and officers have not yet reported to the new stations while recruitment for the remaining three positions is ongoing,” he said. MP Reatile had asked Minister Batshu to state the total number of vacant posts in his ministry and to provide the breakdown by departments and districts. He also wanted the number of temporary employees engaged to acquire experience stated, together with the challenges that caused delay in filling the posts. ENDS
