Public servants display poetic skills

17 Jun 2013

Public Servants were treated to a superb display of poetic talent during the Public Service Day celebrations in Gaborone on June 14-15.

The amazing talent made it a joyous celebration indeed as ministries tried to outwit each other on stage and it was clear that public officers had great talent, only if it could be put to use.

Koobonye Bareng of the Ministry of Trade and Industry, Joseph Kgotlaetsho - Ministry of Health and Tlhabogolo Moutlwaditse of the Ministry of Agriculture, came forth to prove their skill through poetic language.

The Ministry of Agriculture emerged as victors as their poetic style entertained many people with Moutlwaditse being able to articulate the theme very well in his poem. On second position came Kgotlaetsho followed by Bareng.

In an interview, Moutlwaditse said he started poetry at a young age. “I then continued with it as I realised that I had talent in poetry, hence I have contributed in the development of poetry.”

Moutlwaditse said in 1991, he made an input in a poetry anthology book called Sejo Sennye. “I made a few poems and they were published in the poetry book,” he said, adding that he was happy to see his poems being used.

Moutlwaditse said he wanted to seriously perform poetry so that he could make a living from it, more so that the days were gone when things were done for free.

End.
