JamatakaMakobo move to Tonota Sub-district

28 Mar 2017

Following numerous requests,  people of Jamataka and Makobo have been moved from Tutume to be serviced by Tonota Sub-district to shorten the distance to services.
At a recent kgotla meeting addressed by officials from the Central District Council which included the council chairperson, Mr Peter Williams, council secretary, Mr Mozondeki Moswete and acting district commissioner, Mr Charlie Modise the two villages’ plea has been granted.
Mr Modise said with the government calling for services to be taken closer to the people, they anonymously found it important to acknowledge the people’s request and have them served at Tonota which was closer to them compared to Tutume.
“As a district we are driving the government’s batho pele policy in serving our people hence this decision,” he said.
He explained that as at the beginning of the new financial year in April, Jamataka and Makobo would get all their services from Tonota Sub-district, adding that it would include services of land which they would get at Tonota Sub-land board moving from Marapong Sub-land board which is under Tutume Sub-district.
He, nonetheless, pointed out that although they would be serviced at Tonota Sub-district under Tonota constituency that does not mean that they were also being moved from Shashe West constituency, noting that the relocation of services does not affect political boundaries.
“In terms of political boundaries you are not moving to Tonota constituency you remain in Shashe West meaning all other things which needs constituency offices assistance you go to Shashe West office,” he emphasised.
Also acknowledging the relocation of the two villages from Tutume to Tonota was council chairperson for Tutume Sub-district, Mr Ishmael Mokgethi who said the move was going to help service the communities better.
He said Tutume with a total of 31 villages that include seven remote area villages has been struggling to properly serve the people as per their requirements on time.
He said reducing the villages by two would help, but that they were still going to remain with 29 villages which were a distance apart.
He, however, said it would help them up their game in other areas to meet the expectations of the people.
Appreciating the decision, Kgosi Adam Makobo of Makobo said they were pleased with the verdict of their request, noting that under tribal administration they have been served at Tonota while all other services they were asked to go Tutume.
He said in some instances, it was confusing in that as representative of the people,  it became a challenge as under council he was placed at Tutume.
“With the relocation we are now placed under one roof,” he said. ENDS
