Disaneng primary has classroom shortage

27 Mar 2017

About 11 classes at Disaneng Primary School are conducted in the open due to shortage of funds for expansion of the school, Parliament has been told.
Answering a question posed by the MP for Maun East, Mr Konstantinos Markus, Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said Disaneng Primary School was constructed to cater for the relocation of residents of Moeti and Boyei wards in order to pave the way for extension of Maun Airport.
She said the school was built with only seven classrooms to cater for seven streams on account of financial limitations. Ms Tshireletso said the school was not provided for under the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP) backlog eradication projects that were currently running and whose implementation was limited for 2016/17 and 2018/19.
Nonetheless, Ms Tshireletso said funds permitting, her ministry through the North West District Council, re-prioritised the allocation of resources/facilities to the needy schools, Disaneng Primary School included, in 2017/18.
MP Markus had asked the assistant minister if she was aware that 11 classes at Disaneng primary were conducted in the open, and what she would do about the matter and when. ENDS
