Private boreholes not monitored

The Ministry of Agricultural Development and Food Security does not monitor the usage of privately owned boreholes drilled in the fields (masimo) which were allocated by land boards. Responding to a question in Parliament from the MP for Takatokwane, Mr Ngaka Ngaka, Assistant Minister of Agricultural Development and Food Security, Mr Kgotla Autlwetse said “it is farmers who monitor usage of their boreholes and are expected to submit their annual groundwater monitoring report to a water appointment board in compliance with their allocated water rights.” MP Ngaka had requested the minister to state measures in place to control the usage of boreholes drilled in the fields (masimo).
