Old Apostolic Church donates food hampers
23 Mar 2017
The Old Apostolic Church is doing its share to assist those affected by the recent floods and donated food hampers and toiletries worth P5 750 to 12 victims in Moshupa on March 21.
The church noted that disasters added to government and societal burdens and urged individuals to follow suit.
Handing over the donations, Evangelist Solomon Gaborone from the church’s headquarters in Gaborone said Batswana had been urged to contribute to the National Disaster Relief Fund and to assist those who have been affected and displaced by the recent downpours.
He said all churches needed to play a part in restoring normalcy to lives, essential services and infrastructure in the affected areas.
He said the donation complemented government’s vision and goal of improving the lives of citizens, and that the church’s role was to show compassionate.
Evangelist Gaborone said the church focused not only on spreading the word of God, but also at helping underprivileged members of society.
He appealed to the government to look at how churches could be more effective and do more than what they were currently doing.
He said their church had in recent years assisted the government with money, blankets and food hampers to disaster victims in Botswana and Mozambique.
On behalf of the victims, Ms Tebogo Kgasa, appreciated the church for the timely and generous act, saying it would help the affected get back on their feet.
She appreciated the church’s partnership with government, saying the government alone could not win the battle against poverty.
Ms Kgasa appealed for shelter since some of the houses were damaged in Moshupa. ENDS
