22 Mar 2017

Gabane North West councillor, Mr Mokgotla Pule has emphasised the need to have a representative from Kgosi Kgolo Kgari III’s office during full council sessions to capture issues relating to the office.

Commenting on the chairperson’s speech during the ongoing Kweneng District Council session, Cllr Pule said the department of Tribal Administration was characterised by issues of staff welfare and other related matters that were hardly ever solved.

Cllr Pule claimed the department had failed to utilise six posts of headmen of arbitration that had since been forfeited when they could have benefited some areas in the district.

Gabane North East councillor, Mr Ofentse Mareme raised a concern that KDC was continuing to inject funds on benchmarking exercise that never yielded results.

He called for the servicing of industrial plots in the district to make them attractive to investors.

Cllr Bakang Matlho of Nkoyaphiri Central had bemoaned the alleged appalling state of affairs at Mogoditshane Junior School, which he claimed led to the deteriorating school academic performance.

He said teachers at the school were required to teach over 60 students in a class.

He therefore urged relevant authorities to help arrest the situation.

Nominated Councillor Digobo Ramathaosa called on government to revisit the boarding arrangement for Mantshwabisi pupils, saying the facility was in a bad state to be occupied by children who still require regular parental care.

He disputed issues raised in the speech relating to maintenance of cracked houses by the contractor responsible for construction of Letlhakeng Roads Infrastructure.

He noted that 112 cases had not yet been resolved, contrary to the chairperson’s remarks.

Cllr Ramathaosa suggested that labour intensive programme be used to cut grass along the main roads instead of tractors to help absorb a high number of individuals.

Councillor for Gamodubu ward, Mr Borumolano Mathwai said that tractor owners were made to benefit twice as they were previously accorded privilege to plough fields under ISPAAD.

Cllr Poloko Motlhobogwa of Sebele reiterated his call for Water Utilities Cooperation to help address the deteriorating water situation in the area.

He also pleaded with Botswana Examination Council (BEC) to constantly monitor under performing schools and help them focus.

Nominated Cllr Leshomo called for modification of the policy governing day care centre operations, adding that the facilities were charged P1 200 for non-compliance and as a result end up closing.

She also requested Kweneng regional education officials to ensure that village leadership was involved in strategic planning on how to fight social ills in schools.

Cllr Kopanang Tshaakane of Boatlaname\Leologane attributed Boatlaname school deteriorated academic performance in the PSLE results to lack of electrification in the village, saying the school was trailing behind all the 91 primary schools in the district because the area was behind in terms of development.
