Mogobane Otse schools unsubscribed

21 Mar 2017

It is worrying to see most parents from Otse and Mogobane sending their children to public schools in Lobatse, while neglecting schools in their respective villages.

South East District secretary, Mr Lebuile Israel said this during a full council session recently.

He said this happened while schools in Otse and Mogobane have low enrolment. Mr Israel said there was need to engage parents and show them the importance of sending their children to schools in their proximity.

He said most of the students who transit to Lobatse on a daily basis do so to attend government schools, while neglecting those in their villages. He said this became evident during the closure of the Nnywane Bridge as students had to miss classes, adding that the current situation was unfortunate.

Mr Israel said even though some parents could have reasons for enrolling their children in Lobatse, there was need to engage them on the matter.

Speaking in a different forum at a kgotla meeting addressed by Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele in Otse recently, Kgosi Mothusi Tsetse of Otse conceded that student missed two weeks of schooling as there was no access road.

However, he said education administrators from the southern region, where Lobatse schools fall, have promised to hold classes for the affected.

Kgosi Tsetse allayed fears from parents who thought nothing will be done to help pupils who missed lessons during the recent floods. ENDS
