21 Mar 2017

Parliament has been informed that there are no temporary employees engaged by the Ministry of Minerals Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security to acquire experience.

Minister for Presidential Affairs, Governance and Public Administration, Mr Eric Molale said there were 45 vacancies out of 522 posts in the Ministry of Minerals Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security.

Responding to a question in Parliament on behalf of Minister Advocate Sadique Kebonang, Mr Molale said out of the number, Headquarters (Gaborone) has 23 vacant posts, Mines in Gaborone has 14, Mines in Francistown 1, geological Survey in Lobatse 2 and Energy in Gaborone has 5.

He further said the general trend where experienced personnel, especially in the mining and engineering fields, tend to prefer to work for the private sector has made filling the vacant posts slow.

Specially Elected Member of Parliament, Mr Mephato Reatile wanted to know the total number of vacant posts in the Ministry of Minerals Resources, Green Technology and Energy Security and provide the breakdown by departments and districts.

He also wanted to know the total number of temporary employees engaged to acquire experience and the challenges that caused delay in filling in these vacant posts. ENDS
