Assistant Minister of Land Management Water and Sanitation Services, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi on March 17 visited Nnywane dam and Lobatse water treatment plant to get first-hand information on their operations.
In an interview, Mr Moipisi said the tour was informative and an eye opener as he got to appreciate Water Utilities Corporation (WUC)’s different operations and its complexities.
Mr Moipisi said he was able to gather concrete information so that in future when the corporation sought funds, the ministry was in a position to understand the scope of work the money was requested for.
He said it would also help the ministry to allocate resources accordingly among different regions since the ministry would be familiar with the corporation’s daily operations and needs.
Mr Moipisi explained that he had a meeting with Lobatse WUC staff to clear the mist regarding the ongoing restructuring exercise.
He said the exercise was meant to improve services and not related to job losses adding that funds amounting to P1.5 billion had been requested from the World Bank to upgrade infrastructure.
He said the matter had affected employees with some commercial banks reluctant to assist them because of the rumours.
However, he explained that the excercise was still at preliminary stage and would be communicated in due course.
Earlier on, Lobatse WUC acting manager, Mr Amogelang Molefe said Nnywane dam, which was constructed in 1970, had a holding capacity of about 2.4 million cubic litres.
He said the dam waters areas including Lobatse, Otse, Good Hope, Kgomokasitwa, Molapowabojang and other surrounding areas. ENDS
