MLGRD cited in 20 cases

The Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRPD) has been cited in 20 labour related litigations in the past five years, Parliament has been told.
Assistant minister, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso said 17 of the cases pertained to exclusion from payment of scarce skills allowance under the Public Service Directive No.2 of 2008 on scarce skills allowance.
She said the other three are related to unfair dismissals, adding that the ministry has so far paid P10.2 million arising from the awards from the stated claims.
She said from the amount, P9 million was paid from the scarce skills allowance case while P1.2 million was paid to settle claims from the three cases of unfair dismissals.
She noted that there were no outstanding payments from the stated cases.
Specially elected MP, Mr Mephato Reatile wanted the minister to appraise Parliament on labour related litigations pertaining to the ministry in the past five years.
He also wanted the minister to state the total amount that has so far been paid and the outstanding payment to the said cases. ENDS
