20 Mar 2017

The President’s Charitable Trust Fund has received a donation of P10 000 from Okavango Wilderness Safari, P5 000 from Woolworths Botswana, 200 blankets and 100 soccer balls from Jamal Trading, as well as computers from other different companies.

Donations were handed over at the Office of President by Mr Grant Woodrow of Okavango Wilderness Safari,  Jamal Trading managing director, Mr Babu Bhuiyani and Mr Braam Van Staden of Woolworths Botswana.

Receiving the donation, deputy permanent secretary in the  Office of the President, Government Communications, Dr Jeff Ramsay said donations were welcome as they filled up the gaps in the society of the less privileged people as well as giving some sense of normalcy in their lives.

Dr Ramsay said giving to the needy was a joyous thing, saying to be in a position to give was a blessing.

He also briefed donors about the outreach programmes the Presidential charity trust had been engaged in which he said included the destitute housing programme fully financed by government, whereby destitute people were identified with the help of social and community development offices under the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.

Dr Ramsay pointed out that the Presidential Charitable Trust had since built structures for the poor and destitute, adding that they had also distributed sport equipment all over the country.

He said balls would assist in constituency football tournaments, while blankets would go a long way in the upcoming winter season.

He further said they had since given about 116 scholarship to students, as well have distributed 10 000 chairs countrywide and that they had donated over 15 000 blankets through the Charitable Trust. ENDS
