16 Mar 2017

Assistant Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, Ms Botlogile Tshireletso says four children ate a poisonous plant and were attended to at Khudumelapye clinic on November 27 last year.

Responding to a question in Parliament, Ms Tshireletso said they were attended to by the attending nurse and stabilised after which they were referred to Scottish Livingstone Hospital the following day for further care.

She said all the four children were walking when they were referred to Scottish Livingstone Hospital which indicated that they were recovering well from the effects of poison.

However, she said on November 28, one of the children passed on in the hospital due to aspiration of vomitus. She added that management of clients in Khudumelapye was satisfactory and referral was done for further investigations in a higher facility.

MP for Takatokwane, Mr Ngaka Ngaka had requested the minister to update on the reluctance by nurses at Khudumelapye clinic regarding the four children who ate a poisonous plant and one of them died on arrival at Scottish Livingstone Hospital. ENDS
