Chairperson of Sefalana Holdings board of directors, Dr Ponatshego Kedikilwe has urged horticulture farmers around Kanye to take advantage of the new Sefalana Shopper store that was opened at Mahube Mall in Kanye on wednesday.
Speaking during the official opening of the store, Dr Kedikilwe said the shop was a sustainable livelihoods generator, particularly for food producers in the district.
Dr Kedikilwe shared that in 2016 his company imported horticultural products worth P674 million, thus encouraged young farmers to work together with the view to enhance their capacity to supply the shop with fresh vegetables.
Dr Kedikilwe further revealed that the locally owned company has also created employment for over 3 000 Batswana countrywide, including 50 jobs for the new shop.
He said the company also gave away 10 tractors to individuals across the country as part of corporate social responsibility and was now looking to expand its service menu with the intention to touch many other lives.
To this end, the former vice president revealed that the company recently acquired an Ultra High Temperature milk factory and a milling factory that produced Tsabana in Serowe.
Dr Kedikilwe urged Batswana to support the company, which he revealed was owned by Motor Vehicle Accident Fund, Debswana Pensioners’ Funds and Botswana Public Officers’ Pension Fund, among others and enable it to have a meaningful impact in the lives of Batswana.
Dr Kedikilwe further informed residents that the company was extending its services to other countries, adding that 16 stores had already been opened in Zambia and one in Lesotho.
He added that the company supplied MAN trucks in Zambia.
For his part, the managing director of Sefalana Holdings, Mr Hans Kampmann said they were proud to have operated in the country for the last 40 years.
He said they have invested a lot in uniting all the company brands into one, outlining that they currently have 23 Sefalana Shopper stores in Botswana.
Mr Kampmann said the new store aims to provide Batswana with first class shopping experience, with a particular focus on treating customers with utmost respect and offering competitive prices. ENDS
