No plans to tar roads from Ghanzi

15 Mar 2017

Parliament has been informed that there are no plans to tar the roads from Ghanzi to Qabo and Ghanzi to Grootelaagte and they are not included in the NDP 11 because of financial constraints.

Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Kitso Mokaila said he was aware that during rainy seasons the two roads with bridges are not traversable and his ministry has installed two culverts to balance the flood plain in the just ended Dry Grading Project on Ghanzi/Grootelaagte road.

He further said two more culverts would be installed this coming financial year and one culvert is also planned to be installed on the Ghanzi/Qabo road on an already identified spot.

MP for Ghanzi North, Mr Noah Salakae had asked the minister whether there are any plans to tar two roads from Ghanzi to Qabo and Ghanzi to Grootelaagte, since the two villages are economic hubs of the san communities residing in the whole Ghanzi region.

He further asked if Minister Mokaila is aware that during rainy seasons, these roads with bridges are not traversable adversely affecting in particular, the transport of patients and sometimes leading to fatalities. ENDS
