Lack of funds incapacitate education ministry
15 Mar 2017
The lack of permanent posts prohibits the Ministry of Basic Education to employ teachers on permanent basis at this time.
This was said by the Minister of Basic Education, Dr Unity Dow in Parliament on Tuesday, when responding to a question from MP for Ghanzi North, Mr Noah Salakae.
Dr Dow said her ministry was aware that, of the 74 teachers at Itekeng Junior Secondary School, there are six qualified temporary teachers that are engaged for a period of one year.
MP Salakae had wanted to know if the minister was aware that students at Itekeng JSS in Ghanzi are still under the care of temporary teachers and that these teachers work only for two terms before they are replaced with other temporary teachers.
Furthermore, he asked what was prohibiting the ministry from hiring these teachers on permanent basis. ENDS
