Palapye still awaits property handover

14 Jun 2013

Handing over of assets belonging to the Palapye community has suffered a serious set-back due to lack of cooperation from directors of Jacinth Holdings, formerly Palapye Development Trust.

Briefing Palapye Sub-council this week, Palapye deputy district commissioner, Ms Veronica Rabakane said her office had held several meetings with the company together with Palapye Development Advisory Trust in a bid to prepare for a smooth hand over of assets.

Ms Rabakane said the advisory trust was an entity nominated as a potential custodian of the community assets. She noted that the assets included, amongst others, a piece of land measuring 100 hectares, vehicles and bank accounts.

She said the hand over was to be held in April but Jacinth directors refused to honour the agreements laid down in the last meeting prior to the proposed hand over. Ms Rabakane further noted that her office consulted the company secretary regarding the handover and relinquishing powers as signatories.

However, the information given was that the company wanted to do a paper hand over and resign later on. “This to us is like putting the cart before the horse,” she said.

In addition, she pointed out that her office had since forwarded the matter to the superiors to intervene. Councillors appreciated the report and called for the district administration office to continue giving them updates on the matter. ENDS
