Man dies as boat capsizes

14 Jun 2013

A boat carrying two men capsized in Lake Ngami not far from Legotlhwane settlement following strong winds, resulting in  the death of a 29-year-old Chanoga man.

In an interview, Sehithwa police station commander, Superintendent Nelson Moseke confirmed the incident noting that strong winds had been experienced in Sehithwa for the past few days.

He said the occupants of the boat were on a fishing expedition when strong winds created waves that caused their boat to capsize. One managed to swim to safety, while the Chanoga man was confirmed dead at the hospital.

Supt Moseke urged people not to fish when there are strong winds and implored them to buy life jackets and most importantly to avoid going into the waters of the lake while intoxicated.  ENDS
