City council needs P75 million to fix roads
13 Mar 2017
Francistown City Council (FCC) Deputy Town Clerk Mr Robert Letlole has presented a proposed P75 million budget cost for repairing damaged roads due to the recent heavy rains to the Francistown city councillors on recently.
Mr Letlole said the council intends to repair major roads and secondary access roads within the city and this will be done by asphalt overlaying, pothole patching, rutting and depression repairs, repair of isolated severe crocodile cracks, shoving and edge repair by the use of kerbstones.
He also noted that construction and maintenance of necessary detours and bypasses are included in the budget, adding that the Department of Roads has been engaged in establishing roads that require attention and maintenance due to the damage caused by recent rains.
Mr Letlole further acknowledged that his office is aware of roads that were damaged prior to the heavy rains that have been under maintenance, but because of the rains, maintenance was disturbed.
In response, FCC deputy mayor, Councillor Godisang Radisigo implored officers to engage city councillors in conducting research concerning damaged roads because councilors know which roads need attention in their different wards.
He added that gravel roads should be included in the budget because they have also been affected by the recent heavy rains.
Mr Letlole explained that councillors would have been consulted but the matter required an urgent attention.
He further assured the councillors that gravel roads will be included in the budget. ENDS
