Local authorities responsible for Gazetting of cemeteries

Minister of Health and Wellness, Ms Dorcas Makgato has told Parliament that her ministry is the custodian of the Public Health Act of 2013.
She also told Parliament that the Public Health Act of 2013 Section 124 (1) delegates the responsibility of gazetting of cemeteries and crematoria to local authorities.
Ms Makgato said her ministry has gazetted no cemeteries this year.
Francistown East MP, Mr Buti Billy had asked the minister to state the number of cemeteries gazette by the Ministry of Health and Wellness in 2017.
He also asked if the minister was aware of several cases of people burying their deceased in un-gazetted areas, particularly in the North East District.ENDS
