Relocation of facilities not necessary

08 Mar 2017

Donga Military Camp does not house old and poorly maintained weapons, defence justice and security minister, Mr Shaw Kgathi told Parliament.
Mr Kgathi said all military weapons are by nature dangerous and the Botswana Defence Force (BDF) takes all necessary precautions to ensure that weapons are kept and operated in a manner that would not endanger the lives of both the operators and the general public.
He also said there was no justification for relocating any of the BDF facilities in Donga.
Member of Parliament for Francistown East, Mr Buti Billy wanted to know if the minister was aware that the Donga Botswana Defence Force camp in Francistown houses some of the dangerous weapons which are old and poorly maintained.
He also wanted to know if the minister would consider relocating the storage to a suitable place. ENDS
