No plan to construct Tati Siding - Gerald bypass

08 Mar 2017

Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Kitso Mokaila has told Parliament that his ministry has no plans to construct a bypass road from Tati Siding through Francistown to Gerald Estate.
He stated that the ministry believes that the recently completed upgrading of Tonota- Francistown road which covers Tati Siding- Francistown (Gerald Estate) would significantly address the problem of traffic congestion between the two places.
He highlighted that the bypass from Mmandunyane- Shashe Mooke- Borolong- Chadibe- Mathangwane road which would include access roads to villages of Makobo and Natale in Tonota sub district was at a procurement stage for the design phase.
Mr Mokaila said site visits were held on February 28, 2017 with tender closing date scheduled for March 10, 2017.
“This road which is linked to the A1 at Semotswane village will divert traffic which would otherwise pass through Francistown towards Maun via A3 highway hence decongesting the A1 highway,” the minister said.
MP for Francistown East, Mr Buti Billy had asked the minister when he intends to construct a bypass road from Tati Siding to Francistown through Gerald Estate, as that would result in a significant reduction of traffic congestion on the A1 road between the two places. ENDS
