Tutume Sub-district Council has secured funds to compensate people that will be affected by the planned Tutume infrastructure development project to be done through the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP).
Addressing full council meeting in Tutume on March 6, council chairperson, Mr Ishmael Mokgethi said the council had received over P3million to be used for compensating the affected property owners.
Already, Mr Mokgethi said the process of compensation had started and they intend to have paid all by the end of March this year, so that they could pave way for the next stage of the project implementation, which was construction.
Besides the compensation process, he said they had also acquired funds over P6million, which they had already paid out to Botswana Power Corporation for the relocation of their services.
Therefore, council chairperson noted that with all the processes progressing well, they looked forward to the commencement of the project, which included construction of internal roads and nstallation of street lights among other things, to start as per schedule.
Mr Mokgethi said they were tasked with the responsibility of ensuring that the implementation was done as per schedule, adding that they were going to intensify their monitoring so that everything could run smoothly.
In addition, he pointed out that apart from the infrastructure projects, there were also four other projects still to be done through ESP, which were the upgrading of Tutume Primary Hospital to a 70 beds hospital at an estimated cost of P230 million as well as the construction of three clinics without maternity wing at Semitwe, Mosetse and Makuta with each estimated to cost around P33 million.
“A Poly-clinic with a maternity wing, laboratory and X-ray department will be constructed at Nata,” he said.
All these, he said, were going to give the sub-district a face lift and ease services to the community as per the service standards prescribed by government.
On other issues, councilor Mokgethi informed the meeting about the implementation of the turnkey programme for public officers on D4 scale and below, which was ongoing with 10 beneficiaries already funded.
Construction, he said was ongoing for all the beneficiaries, adding that the waiting list stands at 121, with Nkange constituency in their sub-district having the highest number of 54 applications, followed by Nata/Gweta with 37 and Shashe West with 30. ENDS
