Construction of additional road along the old Francistown/Tonota/Gaborone road which passes by the Marang Cresta Hotel and Tati River Lodge heading southwards, was not included in the National Development Plan (NDP 11). Minister of Transport and Communications, Mr Kitso Mokaila told Parliament on March 6, that was because the ministry did not have funds to undertake the project. However, he said completion of the upgrading of Tonota-Francistown road to dual carriageway had significantly reduced traffic congestion along the A1 road between Tonota and Francistown, adding that the completion of the Thapama interchange would facilitate movement of traffic within Francistown. Francistown East Member of Parliament, Mr Buti Billy had asked the minister to state if he would consider constructing additional road along the old Francistown/Tonota/Gaborone road which passes by the Marang Cresta Hotel and Tati River Lodge heading southwards, since such would significantly reduce traffic along the A1 Road between Tonota and Francistown.
