WUC addresses high water charges at Donga JSS
07 Mar 2017
Minister of Basic Education, Dr Unity Dow says the ministry, through technical services, continues to engage Water Utilities Corporation to address issues of high water charges and wastage at Donga Junior Secondary School. Minister Dow told Parliament recently that she was aware of the situation at the school, which was duplicated in a number of schools around the country. She added that Donga JSS would be assessed this year and necessary remedial action would be taken.
Francistown East MP, Mr Buti Billy had asked the minister if she was aware of the exorbitant water bills that were frequently sent to Donga JSS with a minimum of P5 000 per month. Mr Billy also asked the minister whether it would not be prudent to task a team to investigate the cause of such bills. Meanwhile, Minister Dow said the ministry did not have any plans to procure houses from Botswana Housing Corporation in Gerald Estate. She said the new school that the ministry had constructed had a provision for 38 staff houses.
MP Billy had asked the minister to state progress made in the acquisition of BHC houses in Gerald Estate (Mophane) for purposes of allocating them to secondary school teachers who had no accommodation.
