06 Mar 2017

Parliament was told that the Ministry of Basic Education had no plans to build a new dining hall and kitchen at Donga Junior Secondary School in Francistown. Answering a question in Parliament from the Member of Parliament for Francistown East, Mr Buti Billy, the Minister of Basic Education, Dr Unity Dow said she was aware that students at the school had their meals in the open. He further explained that when community junior secondary schools were built, it was the role of the communities to construct additional facilities, including purpose-built dining halls and kitchens. She also mentioned that since her ministry took over the junior secondary schools in 2006, they had been addressing the subsequent backlog through ministerial budgets and the Economic Stimulus Programme (ESP). Mr Billy had asked the minister, if she was aware that the students at Donga Junior Secondary School were being fed in the open, instead of the school hall. MP Billy had wanted to know what action was being taken to address the situation.ENDS
