No plans to abolish Haemodialysis

06 Mar 2017

There are no plans to abolish Haemodialysis care in favour of Peritoneal dialysis treatment. Responding to a question in Parliament, Assistant Minister of Health and Wellness, Mr Dikgang Makgalemele said there were different indications for using each of them at different times. “This is because they work in different ways for the conditions they are used for. Therefore one cannot always replace the other. It is important to have both interventions in our health services,” he said. In addition, he said provisions to cover dialysis program for both Peritoneal and Haemodialysis had been made in 2017/18 budget. MP for Ghanzi North, Mr Noah Salakae had asked the minister whether there were any plans to abolish Haemodalysis care in favour of Peritoneal dialysis treatment. If so, he said, the minister should state the reasons and whether this was included in the 2017/2018 budget. ENDS
