03 Mar 2017
There is notable progress in rolling out reception classes in primary schools in the Ramotswa area.
The South East South sub-district Mr Adolf Mosalaesi said during the sub council meeting in Ramotswa recently.
Mr Mosalaesi said schools offering reception classes have increased from 11 to 13, with Seboko primary and St Bernard’s primary schools joining this year.
He said St Joseph Primary School remains the only school that is yet to start reception classes, but major constraint for the school is shortage of classrooms.
Mr Mosalaesi said the feeding programme is also doing well with the recently appointed supplier for meat and perishables.
He however noted that there is still shortage of qualified reception teachers and the Ministry of Basic Education has been made aware of the need.
Mr Mosalaesi pointed out that primary schools in the area are experiencing shortage of consumables in the form of notebooks and exercise books.
As part of government initiative to empower farmers, he said expectation is that farmers will this year supply primary schools with various farming products among them watermelon, maize and gourds.
He noted that under the Poverty Eradication Programme, the Department of Forestry and Range Resources is monitoring six established projects of which only four are operating while two are not.
He said for the four operational there is visible production and sale of seedlings.
Mr Mosalaesi however said two of the beneficiaries are facing challenges of lack of market while the other remaining beneficiary is reported to be faced with a problem of termites attack.
He further stated that the Mogobane Irrigation Scheme Project is doing well and production is continuously ongoing. ENDS
