Career fairs can save public funds-official
02 Mar 2017
Human Resources Development Council (HRDC) public sector career counselor, Ms Cathrine Dinotshi says the Botswana Human Resources Development Skills (BHRDS) Fair and Career clinics will save government funds.
Speaking at the ongoing BHRDS fair, Ms Dinotshi noted that research conducted from the past years indicated shortage of skills in the industry, which caused low growth in the public sector.
For her part, Ms Rositah Tamocha, a career counselor, explained that there were different courses that had been chosen by HRDC looking at the outcome of the research which identified skills that were in short supply in the market.
“This research will be done annually to avoid overcrowding in one course because many Batswana are educated but staying at home without work due to the saturation of similar skills,” she explained.
Meanwhile, a BW Jobs for Graduates volunteer, Ms Shirley Ramolefhe said their mandate was to guide prospective learners on doing research on what would benefit them at the tertiary schools they would choose.
A prospective learner, Ms Belinda Rabosholo welcomed the decentralisation of the fair to places outside Gaborone as Francistown was easily accessible from Selebi Phikwe, where she lives. ENDS
