No job losses at WUC
01 Mar 2017
Nobody has been retrenched at Water Utilities Corporation (WUC) due to the proposed restructuring process aimed at optimising processes and improvements on service delivery.
This was said by land management, water and sanitation services assistant minister, Mr Itumeleng Moipisi, when responding to a question in Parliament from MP for Gaborone North, Mr Haskins Nkaigwa.
The restructuring process, Mr Moipisi said was still being conceived, adding that "as of now I cannot say with any degree of certainty as to whether some employees will be retrenched or not."
“We have not employed anybody to fill any positions, because nobody has been retrenched,” he said.
However, the assistant minister said what had been done was to issue all employees, including the chief executive officer with letters notifying them that due to the proposed restructuring exercise, some employees may be retrenched.
That, he said was done in compliance with Section 25 of the Labour Act.
MP Nkaigwa had wanted to know how many employees were retrenched by WUC during their retrenchment process.
He also wanted to know if there were any plans to retrench more employees and how many had been employed into the same positions following retrenchment. ENDS
