Acting director of the Department of Roads, Transport and Safety, Mr Bokhutlo Modukanele says team building exercises contribute to a high work performance team in organisations.
Therefore he said,Ministry of Transport and Communication is committed to invest in team building, saying they need self-driven and passionate employees who would selflessly commit towards building and transforming the ministry .
Mr Modukanele made the remarks during the ministry’s WITS convention in Maun under the theme “Pulling together towards turning the performance corner in 2017 and beyond”.
He emphasised the need for employees to be innovative and creative to deal with emerging complexities adding that innovation and creativity becomes instrumental in delivering efficiency gains necessary to drive and sustain productivity initiatives.
He stated that the convention came at a time when government was faced with challenges of performance decline. This, he said called for public officers to introspect and find ways in which they could address the current challenges.
Mr Modukanele believed that the theme of the convention offered benefits for all and also provided the ministry with the opportunity to radically improve the culture of doing things with a common goal geared at building a high performance team.
He said WITS enabled the public service to harness the creativity of all officers and the power of teamwork to improve service delivery. The initiative helps to make public service more productive and dynamic, in line with the pledge of continuous improvement to achieve service excellence.
He further said government had made commitment to uplift the lives of fellow citizens through various empowerment initiatives. “These initiatives can only see the light of the day if public officers work with concerted efforts to drive the initiatives,” he added.
Mr Modukanele further appreciated that the team worked tirelessly in identifying the gaps and came up with projects that would address those gaps through teamwork.
Team Smelter from Selebi Phikwe Central Transport Organization scooped position one out of nine teams which took part followed by Badirammogo from Maun CTO while team Ferry from Francistown got position three respectively.
One of the judges, Ms Tshepo Ramojadife from the Ministry of Land Management, Water and Sanitation Services advised teams to come up with projects that were best tailored to benefit and address issues that cut across all ministries.
She said it was also important to align their projects to the issues of national interest and further explained that the projects result should be tangible and be customer centric. “You should tell how the projects could improve an ordinary Motswana out there”. ENDS
